First Year - Lesson 5

Kappa
The Kappa is a water demon which dwells in shallow ponds
and rivers in Japan. It resembles a monkey, but with fish scales
rather than fur. It has a hollow in the top of its head, in which
it carries water.
The Kappa is a Class XXXX (4X) beast, because it feeds
on human blood. There are two ways to avoid death by Kappa.
The first is to throw a cucumber with your name carved in it. The
Kappa will then not harm you. If you are caught cucumberless,
then trick the Kappa into bowing. When the water in the hollow of
the Kappa's head spills out, the Kappa is powerless.
Kappa scales are useful for water containment spells.

Nundu
Nundus come from East Africa and are considered by some
to be the most dangerous beast in the world. Nundus are giant
leopards. Their exact size can vary, but they can be taller than
10 feet at the shoulder.
Nundus are a Class XXXXX (5X) beast because of their
size, stealth, and breath. Despite their huge size, they move as
silent as any cat. Their breath is their true weapon,
however. It causes a disease so virulent that it could eliminate
entire villages. The degree of its danger is evident in the fact
that no Nundu has been subdued by less than a hundred skilled wizards
working together.
Powdered Nundu is can be used to brew powerful poisons
or powerful antidotes. However, trying to get the Nundu is more of
a challenge than it may be worth.

Lethifold
Lethifolds, or Living Shrouds, are rare, found solely in
tropical climates. It resembles a black cloak. It is usually
about half an inch thick, but may be thicker if it has recently
eaten. It glides along the ground at night.
The Lethifold is a Class XXXXX (5X) creature. The
Lethifold glides into a house at night and slides under bedroom doors
and onto the bed of a sleeper. There, it covers and smothers the
victim. Once it has suffocated the victim, the Lethifold stays in
place and digests, before leaving, slightly fatter and thicker than
before.
The only known charm to use against the Lethifold is the
Patronus charm. However, as it generally attacks those sleeping,
it is rare that a wizard is able to use the charm.
Lethifold skin can be used to make protection and
anti-magic cloaks.
