Second Year - Assignment 5

Moke

Mokes are silver-green lizards.  They are found throughout the British Isles.  They reach up to ten inches in length, however, they have the ability to shrink at will.  This size shift has kept them from being noticed by Muggles.

Wizards prize Moke skin.  The scaly material maintains its magical ability.  When a stranger approaches, the skin will shrink.  Wizards turn the skin into purses and moneybags.  The shrinking ability makes it very difficult for thieves to find the purse.

Mokes are a Class XXX (3X) beast.  They aren't particularly dangerous, but may require charms to keep them from vanishing before capture.

Occamy

Occamys are found in India and the Far East.  They are two legged winged creatures, plumed, and with a serpentine body.  They have been known to reach a length of fifteen feet.  They usually feed on rats and smaller birds, though they occasionally carry off monkeys.

Occamys are a Class XXXX (4X) beast.  They are extremely aggressive to any who approach.  They are especially protective of their eggs.  Their eggs are highly sought, as they are made of the purest, softest silver.

Mooncalf

Mooncalves vaguely resemble cows and exist worldwide.  The body of a Mooncalf is smooth and pale grey, with bulging round eyes on top of its head, four spindly legs, and enormous flat feet.  They are very shy and emerge from their burrows only at the full moon.

Mooncalves are known for their dancing.  In isolated areas, they perform complicated dances on their hind legs in the moonlight.  The dances leave geometric patterns in wheat fields, to the puzzlement of Muggles.  The dances are believed to be a prelude to mating.

Watching Mooncalves dance is a delight, for as ungainly as they look, they dance quite well.  Also, if their silvery dung is collected before dawn and spread upon magical herb and flower beds, the plants will grow rapidly and become extremely strong.

Mooncalves are a Class XX (2X) beast.  They are too shy to stay around when they see people, and are not known to attack.
