Third Year - Lesson 6

Fwooper

Fwoopers come from Africa.  They have very brightly colored plumage.  They can be pink, lime green, orange, or yellow.  The feathers of the Fwooper are much desired for fancy quills.  Their eggs are also brightly patterned.

Fwoopers are a Class XXX (3X) creature.  While their song is enjoyable for a time, it will eventually drive the listener quite mad.  For this reason, when Fwoopers are sold, they have a Silencing Charm cast upon them.  The Silencing Charm must be reinforced once a month.  As owning a Fwooper requires responsibility, Wizards wishing to own a Fwooper must obtain the proper license.

Sphinx

Sphinxes originated in Egypt.  They were created by Wizards to guard valuables and secret lairs.  They have a human head and a lions body.  Some Sphinxes have wings, and the majority of them are female, known as a gynoSphinx.  There are male Sphinxes, androSphinxes, but they are much rarer.  If a male Sphinx is spotted, there is likely a female nearby.  

Sphinxes are highly intelligent.  They delight in riddles and puzzles.  These word games were a part of the guarding they were created for.  The Wizard would be the only one with the correct answer, and therefore safe.  All others would not know the answer, and if they persisted, would be killed and eaten.

Sphinxes are a Class XXXX (4X) creature.  They are very fierce and intelligent.  Normally, they are not a risk to a wizard, however, should that wizard be a threat to what the Sphinx is guarding, that wizard would be in very grave danger, and unless that wizard can think very quickly, that wizard will be lunch.

Griffon

Griffons were first seen in Greece.  They have the front legs and head of a giant eagle and the body and hind legs of a lion.  Like Sphinxes, Griffons are often employed to by wizards to guard treasure.  

Griffons are a Class XXXX (4X) beast.  They are fierce and very large.  They can rend with talons or beak, or grab someone into the air and release from a height.  They are intelligent, and only skilled and cautious wizards are able to befriend them.  Griffons will feed on raw meat, including human meat.

Griffon feathers have been found in the core of wands and have been used for various flight and fierceness potions.
