A bit of a breather today.

Fourth Year - Lesson 3

Snidget

The Golden Snidget is a rather beautiful creature.  It's completely round and has a long, thin beak.  It's eyes are a jewel-like, glistening red.  Their feathers are a lovely golden color.  The eyes and feathers helped to bring the Snidget to near extinction, as wizards hunted them, both for their beauty, and for use in potions for speed and beauty.

Another danger to the Snidget came from it's flying abilities.  A Golden Snidget flies very rapidly.  Due to rotational wing joints, it can also change direction with precision and uncanny speed.  The Snidget was used for a long time in the game of Quidditch.  Fortunately for the Snidget, the magical object, the Golden Snitch, replaced the live Snidget.

The Snidget is a Class XXXX (4X) beast.  This rating is not because the Snidget is any danger, but because there are such severe penalties  for anyone who captures or injures a Snidget.  The International Confederation of Wizards does acknowledge that there are Snidget sanctuaries all over the world.

Roc

Rocs are really, really, really, really, really, really big birds.  They can easily lift a full grown man, plus his gear.  They could lift a full grown lion.  They could probably lift a Nundu.  Of course, not only can Rocs lift such things, but they can also rip them apart and eat them, or feed them to their young.  The sheer size and danger of these giant birds gives them their Class XXXXX (5X) rating.

Rocs live atop mountains, usually near hard to reach valleys.  Some Rocs were seen, a long time ago, in the Middle East area, where a seaman was fortunate to escape with his life after being dropped by a Roc into its nest.

Roc eggs are considered valuable.  Their brilliant colors make them a prize to collectors.  Of course, various powdered Roc parts have been used for potions, including some flight potions, but fortunately a single Roc can provide a lot of ingredients.

Leprechaun

Also known as Clauricorns, Leprechauns are found only in Ireland.  They are smarter than fairies, but less malicious than pixies, Doxies, or Imps.  They are still quite mischievous, and enjoy creating a realistic goldlike substance that disappears after several hours.  They mostly enjoy watching the reactions of the humans who watch their wealth vanish before them.

Leprechauns are approximately six inches tall and are green.  They are known to create simple clothing from leaves.  They can speak, but have never requested a classification as a "Being."  They live in the forests and woodland areas, living on leaves and bearing live young like other mammals.

Leprechauns are rated Class XXX (3X) due to their pranks, although they have never caused lasting harm to humans.  Leprechauns enjoy attracting Muggle attention and thus have earned their place in Muggle children's literature.  Some Leprechauns will work with Wizards, even to the point of wearing clothing given to them.
