Fourth Year - Lesson 4

Jarvey
The Jarvey is a large ferret in appearance, up to two
feet long. What truly distinguishes it from a ferret, however, is
that the Jarvey can talk. Unfortunately, Jarveys are not
particularly intelligent, and their conversation tends to be short, even
rude, phrases in a seemingly neverending stream. In short, they
have the personality of ferrets, but the ability to speak.
Jarveys are a Class XXX (3X) Beast. While not
particularly dangerous, their chatter can be mildly maddening.
Fortunately, like ferrets, they are easily distracted. Dangling
shiny things, or tossing a coin in its direction, can cause the Jarvey
to start spouting "Shiny!" repeatedly.
Jarveys, like ferrets, prefer to live underground.
They feed on moles, voles, and rats. However, they especially
enjoy pursuing, and devouring, gnomes. Because of this latter
preference, some Wizards are experimenting with Jarvey parts to create
commercial anti-gnome products.

Crup
The Crup was first seen in the southeast part of
England. It looks like a Jack Russell terrier, with the exception
of its forked tail. Owners of Crups are required to remove the
tail, with a painless Severing Charm, when the Crup is six to eight
weeks old. This is to keep the Crup from being noticed by Muggles.
Crups were created by wizards as protector
animals. While not large, they are exceedingly loyal to wizardkind
and ferocious towards Muggles. Crups are able to tell the
difference between Wizard and Muggle, as well as Squib, though whether
this is by sight, scent, or magical ability is unknown.
Due to their attitude towards Muggles, Crups have a
Class XXX (3X) rating. Wizards wishing to own a Crup must obtain a
license from the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical
Creatures. In order to get the license, the wizard must provide
that they have the ability to control the Crup in Muggle
areas.

Imp
Imps are often confused with Pixies. They are both
between six and eight inches in height, although Imps cannot fly, and
they are a dark brown or black color, as opposed to the more vivid
Pixies.
Imps are found in Ireland and Britain, near damp, marshy
areas, such as riverbanks. Like Pixies, Imps are mischievous
pranksters, and enjoy tripping or pushing travelers into the
river. This earns them their Class XX (2X) rating.
Imps feed on small insects, and breed as faeries do,
although they do not spin cocoons. Instead, young are hatched
fully formed, though only an inch in length.
