Welcome back, welcome back. I've brought in some
fun ones today.
Fourth Year - Lesson 6

Hippocampus
The Hippocampus originated in Greece. It has the
head and forefeet of a horse and the tail and hindquarters of a large
fish. They are usually found only in the Mediterranean.
However, a blue roan Hippocampus was caught by Merpeople near Scotland
in 1949 and was domesticated by them. The fact that they could be
domesticated helps mark them as a Class XXX (3X) creature. Some
wizards believe that the mane of a Hippocampus will aid in swimming
spells.
Hippocampus lay large eggs. The eggs are partly
transparent and the Tadfoal may be seen through the shell.

Sea Serpent
Sea Serpents can be found in the Atlantic and Pacific
oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean. Muggles claim they are
ferocious, using their bodies to sink ships and eat the poor sailors.
Sea Serpents are large, up to one hundred feet.
The head of a Sea Serpent is horselike. The body is snakelike,
rising in humps out of the sea. Despite the Muggle beliefs, sea
serpents are not known to have ever killed, or eaten, humans. The
wizarding community has given them a Class XXX (3X) rating. While
not dangerous, one should be be cautious in the water near them, simply
because of waves.

Centaur
Centaurs have a horse's body and a human torso, head,
and arms. They are Beasts only at their own request. They
are capable of speech and very intelligent. They are well-educated
amongst themselves, including knowledge of magical healing, archery,
divination, and astronomy. They demand respect and do not accept
those who treat them as common beasts. For this reason, they are
given a Class XXXXX (5X). Wizards who treat them with the proper
respect will have no problems. Those who do not may find
themselves dragged into the forest, perhaps never to be seen again.
Centaurs live in the forest. Muggles have legends
of them originating in Greece, but they now exist world wide.
Wizard authorities have allocated areas for Centaurs, but the creatures
need little wizard protection, as they are quite able to deal with
Muggles themselves.
The ways of Centaurs are not well known. They are
as mistrustful of wizards as they are of Muggles, and seem not to
differentiate between the two. It is known they live in herds from
the to fifty members, but little more is known.
