Oh!  It's you!  Sorry 'bout that...

Seventh Year - Lesson 4

Hungarian Horntail

Hungarian Horntails are considered, by many, to be the most dangerous of all the pure dragon breeds.  The Hungarian Horntail lives primarily in mountainous areas near Hungary, as well as up into the Urals of Russia.

Hungarian Horntails have black scales and a lizardlike appearance.  Their eyes are yellow and their horns are bronze colored.  They have long tails with bronze colored spikes protruding from them. Adult Horntails will use the tail spikes as weapons, much as a stegosaurus might have. Additionally, Horntails have a very long range of fire breathing, up to fifty feet.

Horntail eggs are cement-colored and extremely hard shelled.  A baby Horntail will use its tail spikes to bash its way out of the shell.  Once weaned, the Hungarian Horntail will feed on goats and sheep as necessary.  However, they're favorite food is humans.

Norwegian Ridgeback

Norwegian Ridgebacks resemble the Hungarian Horntails with one major exception.  Instead of tail spikes, Ridgebacks have a prominent set of jet-black ridges along its back.  From a distance, Horntails and Ridgebacks are nearly indistinguishable, although if you are in Norway, it is much more likely that you are seeing a Ridgeback.

Norwegian Ridgebacks are exceptionally aggressive, even to their own kind.  Due to such animosity, the Ridgeback is now one of the rarer dragon breeds.  Ridgebacks will attack almost any kind of large land mammal.  Unlike other dragons, Ridgebacks will even take water-dwelling creatures to feed upon.  A report alleges that a Ridgeback carried off a whale calf in 1802.

Norwegian Ridgeback eggs are jet black.  The young develop fire-breathing abilities between one and three months, sooner than any other dragon breed.

There is an unsubstantiated report that a young Norwegian Ridgeback was seen in the region of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
